My European adventures continues. We hopped on a plane leaving the rolling vineyards of France and Tapas tasting in Basque Country behind and headed to the beautiful tulip fields of The Netherlands. Amsterdam was our destination. One of my best mates Laurian lives and works there and it was our turn to have an adventure with the locals!
We arrived early Friday morning and our host was going to be at work all day. Schiphol Airport is little out of the city, so you can either get your self a cab which will cost between 35-40euro or hop on the train that takes you to central station for less than 5euro. We did the latter.
Amsterdam is such a fantastic city to explore on foot all you need is a map which you can pick up at an information desk around the city, a good pair of shoes to walk in. We dropped our bags at base and set off to spend the day taking in the sites.
I just love the architecture in Amsterdam, the beautiful large windows which I can imagine drench each room with so much light and beautiful tall buildings with narrow stair wells…
I took quite a fancy to this little home
Cycling in a must in Amsterdam (stay tuned for tomorrows adventures!)
If you want to visit any of the museums (we really wanted to see the Anne Frank Museum), I would queue up very early in the morning. We didn’t manage to get in as arrived there mid morning and it was already had thousands of people waiting to go in.
We managed to clock up around 30k walking around the city, it was definitely worth it and I couldn’t recommend enough. If you have the time you really get to envisage the beauty of the city with all of the tall tasteful buildings, streets and shops.
Some highlights from our first day included:
– Breakfast at CT Amsterdam; Coffee & Coconuts (Scrambled Eggs & Avo was a no brainer!)
– a walk through Vondel Park
– visit the famous Flower Markets
– Eat at Fat Dog (the Speedy Gonzalez was the winning ticket!)
– Drink a G & T at Mossel & Gin (the Hendricks, Fever Tree & Rose Flower was my fave!)
We headed back to base and almost ready for a chilled evening. When we had a late phone call came through from Laurian to meet up for an unforgettable boat trip through all of the canals with her mates. We leaped at the opportunity, pick up the much needed beers, wines and snacks and off we headed (be prepared for some silliness!)
Laurian was already there glass in tow
We hopped into our friends boat and off we headed exploring the canals and ready to join in with that Friday feeling in the Dam!
We managed to collect all parties along the canal at some point and finally got a much needed Team Amstergram selfie shot!
Laurie and my fella
Everyone had that Friday feeling, even myself and Olly!
We pulled up at this amazing bar, everyone spilling out and the vibe was electric, we got off had a couple of drinks then hopped back on and off we went
The sun was setting, it was the most perfect first evening in Amsterdam
Stayed tuned for Part 2 and more fab adventures in Amsterdam
