I love experimenting with granola recipes, this one is no exception and the great benefit is it is gluten free. Made from the whole raw buckwheat and flaxseed, with a hint of cinnamon, honey (replace with maple syrup if vegan) and coconut oil.
I scattered the delicious granola on my mornings papaya boats. This is a fabulous cereal to make on the weekend, store in a jar or in the fridge and a brilliant one to mix up your breakfast routine, which I believe is highly important.
Why it is good for you:
Buckwheat carries a really fabulous nutty flavour, it is gluten free and has a low GI (great for people with diabetes), it is high in fibre (great for you digestion) and also a good source of potassium and magnesium to help nourish the nervous system. Buckwheat is also known to help with the cardiovascular system (the buckwheat seed also look like little hearts) by helping blood vessels harden. Flaxseeds are awesome too (although don’t consume too many), they are high in omega 3 (if you are veggie or vegan get incorporating these into your diet), helping lower cholesterol, maintains brain health and helps increase the process of making serotonin (happy drug!). They also contain lignans (chemical compound found in plants) which contain phytoestrogens this has been known to help regulate our natural oestrogen production which can aid with maintaining a steady weight. Cinnamon is a great spice that not only provides a carminative effect. It also is great at maintaining blood sugars for people suffering with diabetes.
