It is all the rage at the moment and I needed to hop on the bandwagon to see what all this green smoothie business is about! I have made my own little vegan friendly one which I have most mornings after exercise. It is a real energy booster and kick starts you for the rest of the day. Really easy to make and tasty as well.
400ml Almond Milk (Unsweetened)
1 Ripe Banana
1/2 Tsp Spirulina Powder
1 Tbsp Honey
All you need to do is pop all into a measuring jug and whizz it up with a magi-stick.
Now carry on reading for you to find the wonderful benefits of the above ingredients:
Almond Milk – A fabulous alternative to normal milk, doesn’t give you that heavy feeling after drinking and is a great one for smoothies, slight nutty taste (obviously!)Surf Legend Kelly Slater swears by a almond milk smoothie every morning.
Bananas – I have written about bananas before in my easy peasy banana smoothie, there are so many benefits to them. Here are just a few benefits:
1. Bananas help over come depression, due to high levels of tryptophan, which is converted into seratonin (the happy brain neurotransmitter).
2. Eat two bananas before a work out as they help retain blood sugar levels.
3. High in potassium and low in salt. They are recognised to lower blood pressure and to protect against heart problems.
4. For the ladies: helps improve your mood during PMS, which helps regulate blood sugar, resulting in a stress-relieving relaxation.
Spirulina – this stuff is amazing. This is a nutritious micro salt water plant, which contains rich vegetable proteins and is basically a superfood. Apparently just in a teaspoon a day it has more 58 x richer than spinach, 25 x more carotene than carrots and lots of chlorophyll which can aid removal of toxins from your body, buy here. Plus much more see here. If you are not a big fruit and veggie person, get some of this down you every morning before work.
