My tamari, chilli and dulse trail mix are perfect salty little snacks and also save you buying packets of pre-salted supermarket bought nuts. The benefits about these little guys is you know what is put in them. They are fabulous to sprinkle over salads, veggies, to eat by themselves and work out so much cheaper.
Tamari is basically soy sauce but it has little to no wheat in it (always double check the label) I used cayenne pepper to spice up my seeds and dulse flakes is dried seaweed, you can get them in packets at any health food store. Dulse flakes are a great source of iodine, we need iodine in our diet to keep our thyroid functioning; our soils in Australia are currently lacking in the stuff and so we have to get it into our system through different means. I put extra in my sea salt and sprinkle over salads or eggs in the morning. A decline of the thyroid hormone can lead to so many health issues. The thyroid hormone helps us regulate growth, mental development and metabolic rate (weight gain or loss).
I used raw pepitas (pumpkin seeds), sunflower and a few almonds for my seed/nut mix. You can use any raw seed/nut for this dish. Nuts/seeds are high in some of your essential vitamin B’s, known to help with energy, lethargy and depression. They are great source of vitamin E, an important antioxidant that enhance the immune system.
(n.b. If you are on thyroxine you do not need iodine in your diet. But do get your thyroid function checked out by a health practitioner if you are concerned)
A simple & quick nutritional snack to pop in your kids or adults lunch box.
